How much does a consultation with Dr Kohout cost?
The cost for an initial consultation with Dr Mark Kohout is $300 (including GST). The consultation fee is due at the time of booking. For a medically necessary surgery (non cosmetic) you may be able to claim a Medicare rebate.
Do I need a medical referral to see Dr Kohout?
Yes, a GP or Specialist Medical referral is required for consultations regarding cosmetic plastic surgery and a valid referral will be required if you intend to claim a Medicare rebate for medically necessary procedures. A referral from a Specialist is valid for 3 months and a referral from a GP is valid for 12 months.

What payment methods do you accept?
The clinic accepts cash, EFTPOS, direct deposits, and Mastercard or Visa card. Financing assistance may be available through independent medical finance companies.

How much does surgery cost?
The cost of surgery varies based on the type of procedure. After your consultation, Dr Kohout’s team will provide a detailed estimate based on your personalised treatment plan.
Do you offer payment plans or medical financing?
You can arrange to prepay for your surgery in advanced and Independent medical finance options are available online to make surgery more affordable.

Does Medicare cover surgery costs?
Can I use my Superannuation to pay for my surgery?
In certain circumstances, early release of superannuation may be possible to cover your surgery costs. Please inquire with the clinic or refer to our page on Using Superannuation for surgery.
Are follow-up visits included in the cost of surgery?
Yes, follow-up visits are an important part of the recovery process. Dr Kohout’s team will see you at various stages after your surgery—typically 1 week, 6 weeks, 3 months, and up to 1 year after the procedure—to ensure proper healing and monitor results.
Preparing for Surgery FAQs
How do I get ready for surgery?
- Smoking: Cease smoking THREE weeks prior to surgery and a minimum of SIX weeks post surgery. Do not smoke on the day of your surgery
- Bruising: Arnica tablets may assist with bruising – we suggest to take these 5 days prior to surgery, especially Liposuction. This is not a requirement for surgery. Arnica tablets can be purchased in most pharmacies. Alternatively you can also use Arnica cream post-surgery.
- Remove acrylic nails, nail polish/shellac on your index fingers and do not spray tan 1 week prior to surgery
- Shower: You will be required to have a shower on the day of/night before your surgery with an antibacterial soap wash (e.g. Hibi cleanse) which is available at your local Chemist. You can brush your teeth on the day of surgery.
- Remove ALL Piercings in the area of your procedure and check with the Nurses on the day.
- Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol for 24hrs prior to surgery.
What should I bring with me on the day of surgery?
Please bring any required paperwork, comfortable clothing, and any items recommended by Dr Kohout’s team, such as compression garments or prescription medications. Make sure to also have arrangements for your transport home.
What do I do if I have a Cold, Flu or Chest Infection before surgery?
Please contact us ASAP should you have any problems with breathing or start coming down with a cold or flu. Please also advise of any active infections.
When should I stop taking Medications & Supplements before surgery?
- Cease taking any blood thinning medication such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen (eg: Nurofen), Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba or Fish Oil for one week prior to surgery. See our Medications to Avoid page for more details.
Please ensure that you medication has been discussed with your surgeon at your initial consultation.
- Medication: all current medication needs to be discussed and approved by your surgeon. If your medication has not been discussed during the initial consultation or you have further questions please contact one of our Cosmetic Consultants. Please discuss timing of daily medication with the surgical team during your pre-operative call.
How can I prepare my home for recovery after surgery?
It is important to prepare a comfortable and relaxing environment for your recovery. Ensure you have easy access to necessities, avoid strenuous activities, arrange support from a family member or friend, and have all your medications on hand. It is also helpful to set up a rest area with pillows to keep you comfortable.
When should I Fly Interstate after Surgery?
Interstate Clients: you are required to stay for a minimum of 4-7 nights (depending on your procedure) and must be seen by our Nurse before traveling home. If unsure please discuss details and requirements of your stay with our team.

What is the cooling-off period for cosmetic surgery?
In accordance with AHPRA & Medical Board guidelines, there is a compulsory cooling-off period of 1 week after the initial consultation before any cosmetic surgery is scheduled. This is to ensure patients have adequate time to consider their decision thoroughly.
When is surgery next available with Dr Kohout?
Dr Kohout is typically booked about 1 to 2 months ahead. The team will do our best to book your surgery as soon as possible, you can also ask to be on the surgical waiting list.

How should I prepare for the consultation?
To make the most of your consultation, it is recommended to:
- Send in your patient registration form early
- Send in your GP referral early
- Please be on time so we can spend as much time addressing your concerns as possible.

Can I bring a support person to my consultations and surgery?
Yes, bringing a support person is encouraged, especially during consultations and on the day of surgery. Having someone with you can help you feel more comfortable and assist in retaining important information. You will also need a responsible person to drive you home after surgery.

Is there parking available at the clinic?
In the city clinic: The Broadway shopping centre offers 2hr free parking.

Can I come by public transport?
The Orange Clinic is at Bloomfield Medical Centre just across the road from Orange Base Hospital. On site free parking is available. And Forest reef road has public transport at the entrance to the Medical centre.

All major surgeries are performed in fully accredited private hospitals around Sydney. Patients are placed under general anaesthesia and for larger procedures, may need to stay overnight in the hospital.

Will I need to wear a surgical garment?
